Remember: Who helped Cinderella get ready for the ball?

Understand: Explain why Cinderella’s stepsisters felt jealous of her

Applying: If you were Cinderella, what would you do differently when the clock started striking at midnight?

Analysis: What differences can you identify between Cinderella and her stepmother in terms of attitude and behavior?

Evaluate: Do you think the prince made the right searching the whole kingdom for Cinderella? Give reasons for your answer.

Create: Write a short paragraph imagining the story if Cinderella had never met the fairy godmother. What would have happened?

Class: Grade 3
Time frame: 20 minutes
Learning outcome: AT the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
* analyze the concept of family
* Evaluate the importance of the roles of the family
* Look into their individual families, and create a plan to solve a particular challenge the family is facing.

Activities to aid learning:
Socratic discussion: “What makes a family?” – I will use open ended questions to help channel their thinking.

Case Study: We will choose a story of a particular family, and then think of how to help the family solve the challenges they are facing.

Debate: Should the males in the family help with chores, or should house chores be handled only by the female members of the family?

Critical thinking questions:
_ How can a family ensure they have a strong bond?
– What do you think can happen if members of a family does not work together?
– Design a family help plan for your family, That will help handle some challenges faced by your family.
What kind of tasks would you include, and what would inform your decision?
How will you assign tasks, and why.

Reflection Tasks for the learners:
Exit ticket: Write out one thing you learnt from the topic – Family.
State on e way you intend to make a positive impact in your family this week. State what you intend to do differently.

Comment on Practical Assignment: Critical Thinking in My Classroom by Anire Margaret Fabiyi https://basic.glecgroup.com/stm-assignments/practical-assignment-critical-thinking-in-my-classroom/#comment-5143 Fri, 26 Dec 2025 23:04:52 +0000 https://portal.glecgroup.com/stm-assignments/practical-assignment-critical-thinking-in-my-classroom/#comment-5143 Class Grade 3
Topic: Plants
An example of asking a learner to recall what was taught is:
Can you tell me two things that plants need to grow?
This kind of question does not need critical thinking. the learner can just say: “Plants need water and good soil to grow”.

If i am to ask a question that will allow for critical thinking, i can ask a question like, “What do you think will happen to humans, if there are no plants?”

In order to help develop critical thinking skills in the learners, I will encourage activities that can help them relate with plants. I can tell them to plant maize seeds in two different containers, i should be kept in the room, and another kept in a sunny ad airy environment. They should have a journal, recording what they notice about the 2 plants, and explain their observations.

i will also ask open – ended questions. Such questions do not have a Yes or No answer. these questions help them put on their thinking caps, and think out side the box. Such questions will help them Analyze, evaluate and apply the knowledge acquired.
